Limits & supported formats

Input: 1 file · MP4, WebM · up to 50 MiB.

Video input: up to 8,294,400 pixels per frame. Each selection is limited to 20 seconds. The separate output frame limit still applies: lower fps or shorten the selection. Smaller dimensions reduce pixel and memory use, not duration or frame count.

Output: up to 2,048 px per side, 4,194,304 pixels per frame and 400 frames.

Detailed budgets: 40,000,000 decoded pixels, an estimated 192 MiB working allocation and 64 MiB per ZIP. These estimates help reject large jobs; they do not guarantee a browser process memory peak.

Turn a short clip into a shareable GIF

Play your source video and choose the start and end of the moment you want. Smaller dimensions and a lower frame rate reduce file size and processing work. Up to 30 fps is available, but a longer selection may exceed the 400-frame budget. GIF has no audio and fewer colors than video.

Choosing your settings

24 or 30 fps gives smoother motion but uses more frames. Total clip time is rounded to the nearest 10 ms, with a 20 ms minimum. Palette limits can change color and edges.

If the result needs another pass

If a clip fails the frame or memory limit, shorten it, lower fps or reduce dimensions. A recognized MP4 or WebM container can still contain a codec your browser cannot decode.

Good to know

Which videos work?

MP4 and WebM containers are accepted when this browser can decode their video codec. Compatibility is checked when you choose a file.

Why is there no sound?

GIF cannot contain audio. The video track is sampled over a start-inclusive, end-exclusive time range.
