Compress a GIF for Discord

Emoji, sticker and message limits differ

Discord uses different limits for different places. A custom emoji must be 256KB or smaller and is shown best at 128×128 px. A sticker must be exactly 320×320 px and 512KB or smaller. A GIF sent as a message attachment falls under the account's attachment limit, which is much larger. This page starts with the 256KB emoji budget; edit the target for the place you are posting. Compression changes colors, frames and, if you allow it, dimensions, but it does not crop to a square.

Choosing your settings

For emoji and stickers, size matters as much as bytes: a 500 px GIF is shrunk on screen anyway, so resizing to the platform size first usually saves more than heavy color reduction. Use the platform adapter when you need the exact Discord square and the safety margin in one step.

If the result needs another pass

If the result is still above target, shorten the clip with Trim, lower the frame count with Reduce GIF Frames or resize the canvas, then compress again. A failed target is reported as failed; the download is not labelled as meeting the limit.

GIF timing note: missing, 0 ms and 10 ms frame delays are read as 100 ms. Other supported delays are retained unless the task changes timing or the frame sequence. Re-encoded animation may therefore differ from a viewer that handles unusually short delays differently.
