Record a screen and convert the clip to GIF
01Choose a screen, window or tab
02Record and stop within 20 seconds
03Adjust the clip and download your GIF
Capture only the action you need
Use the GIF screen recorder for a short software demonstration, a menu interaction or a bug report. Click Record screen and choose the capture source in your browser. Stop here or use the browser’s Stop sharing control; recording also stops automatically at 20 seconds. The recording then opens in the same editor as Video to GIF. Choose the time range, crop rectangle, output dimensions, frame rate and colors before converting. GIF has no audio.
Choosing your settings
Record the smallest useful window and keep movements short. Lower output dimensions and frame rate for a smaller GIF; palette reduction can change text edges and gradients. The crop coordinates refer to the original recording. A recording can fit the 20-second time limit and still exceed the existing frame, pixel or memory budgets; shorten the selected range or reduce dimensions and fps.
If the result needs another pass
If screen capture is unavailable, use Video to GIF to open an existing local screen recording. If permission is denied, try again and allow screen access in the browser and operating system. If conversion fails, select a shorter range or smaller output. Recordings remain only in memory; refresh or leaving the page clears them.
Good to know
Can I record screen as GIF directly?
The browser records a local video first, then the existing video engine converts your selected clip into GIF. Nothing is uploaded.
How long can I record?
Up to 20 seconds. The countdown stops capture automatically; you can also stop earlier or use the browser’s Stop sharing control.
Does this work on phones?
Screen capture is unavailable in many mobile browsers. If this browser lacks capture or recording support, the page shows an explicit message and a link to upload an existing recording.
Is audio recorded?
No. Capture requests video only, and GIF has no audio track.
Are my recordings saved?
Only in browser memory for the current task. Sharing tracks stop when capture ends, fails or the page closes. No recording is written to localStorage or IndexedDB.
