Limits & supported formats

Input: 1 file · MP4, WebM, MOV · up to 50 MiB.

Video input: up to 8,294,400 pixels per frame. Each selection is limited to 20 seconds. The separate output frame limit still applies: lower fps or shorten the selection. Smaller dimensions reduce pixel and memory use, not duration or frame count.

Output: up to 2,048 px per side, 4,194,304 pixels per frame and 400 frames.

Detailed budgets: 40,000,000 decoded pixels, an estimated 192 MiB working allocation and 64 MiB per ZIP. These estimates help reject large jobs; they do not guarantee a browser process memory peak.

MOV to GIF

MOV is a container, not a codec. Choose a short segment, dimensions, frame rate and palette. H.264 MOV is a useful compatibility baseline; iPhone HEVC MOV decoding depends on your browser and device. Orientation metadata is applied during decoding.

Choosing your settings

Inputs are limited to 50 MiB and up to 3840×2160 display pixels; export a segment no longer than 20 seconds, within GIF frame and memory budgets. GIF has no audio. Lower frame rate and canvas size reduce output weight.

If the result needs another pass

If the codec cannot be decoded, convert the original to an H.264-encoded MP4 using a local video application and retry. Renaming .mov to .mp4 does not convert the video. Damaged or audio-only MOV files cannot produce a GIF.

Good to know

Can I convert an iPhone MOV?

Yes when the browser can decode its video codec. HEVC support varies by browser and device.

What if HEVC is unsupported?

Convert the original video to H.264 MP4 with a local video application. Changing the filename extension alone will not help.

Will the GIF have audio?

No. GIF stores images and timing, not audio.

How long can the clip be?

Up to 20 seconds, subject to frame, pixel and memory budgets. The input can be longer; select a shorter segment.

Is the MOV uploaded?

No. The video is read, decoded and converted locally in your browser.
