Input: 1 file · GIF · up to 20 MiB.
Images: up to 2,048 px per side and 400 animation frames.
Output: up to 2,048 px per side, 4,194,304 pixels per frame and 400 frames.
Detailed budgets: 40,000,000 decoded pixels, an estimated 192 MiB working allocation and 64 MiB per ZIP. These estimates help reject large jobs; they do not guarantee a browser process memory peak.

How to give a GIF a transparent background
A transparent GIF lets the page or chat behind it show through, which is what you want for stickers, logos, overlays and emoji. Open your GIF, switch the frame preview to Source and click the background color. Every pixel close to that color becomes transparent on every frame, so the animation keeps playing with the background removed. Start with a low tolerance and raise it slowly if a faint halo of the old color remains around the edges.
Choosing your settings
Plain, flat backgrounds work best: a white, black or green field behind a logo, pixel art or a cartoon. GIF transparency is on/off per pixel, so soft or blurred edges cannot become semi-transparent. Pixels inside the subject that match the background color will also turn transparent.
If the result needs another pass
If holes appear inside the subject, lower the tolerance or pick a background shade that is not used in the subject. A lingering outline usually means the edge pixels are blended; raise the tolerance a little. Photographic or patterned backgrounds need a cut-out editor instead.
GIF timing note: missing, 0 ms and 10 ms frame delays are read as 100 ms. Other supported delays are retained unless the task changes timing or the frame sequence. Re-encoded animation may therefore differ from a viewer that handles unusually short delays differently.
Good to know
How do I make a GIF background transparent?
Load the GIF, click the background color in the Source preview, adjust tolerance until the background disappears in the result preview, then download. All frames are processed the same way.
Will my GIF still be animated?
Yes. The output is an animated GIF with the same frames, timing and loop setting; only the matching background pixels change to transparent.
Why is there a white or colored outline left?
Edges in most GIFs are blended with the old background. Raise the tolerance slightly, or accept a hard edge. GIF cannot store partially transparent pixels.
Can it remove a photo or video background?
No. It removes one chosen color, not a scene. For a person in a still photo, use Portrait Cutout; for complex GIF backgrounds, a frame-by-frame editor is needed.
Is my GIF uploaded?
No. The GIF is processed in your browser and never leaves your device.
